Castle Hill RSL gymnastics would like to welcome Charlotte Dolden, our new High Performance coach. Charlotte has just moved to Sydney from New Zealand where she was coaching in the IDP program at the Christchurch School of Gymnastics.
In the weeks prior to Easter Charlotte visited Castle Hill to work with the IDP3-10 girls showing her enthusiasm and gymnastics knowledge, and getting to know the girls and other coaches.
Charlotte comes from a gymnastics backgound having competed at a high level for numerous years in New Zealand, and then moving on to coaching. Charlotte is a Level 3 Coach (Senior Compeditive Coach – Gymsports NZ) as well as a Level 2 Judge, and has a keen interest in dance.
We are very excited to have Charlotte as a part of the Castle Hill RSL coaching team and wish her all the best in settling in to Sydney.
NDP Level 6-10 State Trial 1 (12/5/2011)

Annalliese, Danielle, Denise and Tiarne made up the first level 6 squad to come out of Castle Hill for over 3 years, and were coached by Sam Buzelli, Anula and Michelle. The girls competed in the all-around competition, performing the routines that they have been training for the last two months. Their floor routines- choreographed by Samantha Buzzelli were especially well received by the judges. Although none of the girls placed, they should be commended on their enthusiasm and spirited performance. With their second trial only a fortnight away, the girls are training with continued vigor and determination.
Results:

National Squad Training Camp (29/4/11)
The second National Training Camp for the Junior and Senior WAG National Squads was held at the AIS in Canberra from the 17th-23rd of April. Both Castle Hill’s members of the Junior National Squad, Celeste and Rebecca were invited to attend, however Rebecca was unable to attend this camp due to an ankle injury.
This was the second time Celeste has attended a National training camp, and this time she was more confident and looking forward to training with the best gymnasts in Australia.
As requested by National Coach Peggy Lidick Celeste departed for camp ready to show full competition routines and upgrades during the verification competitions to be held during camp. Prior to these verification competitions gymnasts participated in ballet workshops with Stacy Umeh and completed physical testing. Celeste performed well in her physical testing achieving 10 press to handstands on beam, 10 cast to handstands on bars and a handstand hold of 1 min and 51 secs on beam.
During the 3 days of training Celeste was able to demonstrate several skill upgrades across all 4 apparatus including:
- Vault: Yurchenko Layout
- Bars: Connect half routines, including double pike dismount
- Floor: Full floor routine with double pike opening tumbling pass
- Beam: much greater stability particularly in acro series
Unfortunately prior to the verification competitions on the Friday and Saturday Celeste rolled her ankle and was unable to take part in competition. The injury is however not major and Celeste is currently undergoing treatment and rehabilitation and will hopefully be able to compete her full program at the NSW State Championships at the end of May.

Welcome to our new ballet teacher (29/4/11)
Castle Hill RSL gymnastics would like to welcome our new ballet teacher Lucy Watts. Lucy has 18 years of ballet experience as a dancer, including being a part of numerous stage and tv performances. NSW Ideal Testing IDP 1-3
On Sunday February 13th 11 gymnasts from the IDP program attended the first NSW IDEAL testing day for IDP level 1-3 gymnasts.
IDEAL Skills Testing stands for "Individual Development Element Assessment List" and is the assessment of the gymnast’s progress in developing the skills outlined in the IDEAL Skills program. The aim of the IDEAL test is to expose the gymnasts to a broader array of skills at an earlier age and provides gymnasts and their coaches with a useful list of skills linked to the gymnast’s development and age.
All IDP programs in Australia are asked to complete the IDEAL testing. In NSW, all IDP gymnasts participate in an IDEAL Skills Testing session in order to be eligible to compete at the 2011 Elite State Championships.
At this first testing day only the IDEAL level 1 skills were tested, with IDP2-3 to be tested at a later stage during the year.

National Squad Training Camp – January 2011
Junior National Squad member Celeste Loo and coach Sasha Kazhamiakin attended the first National Squad training camp for 2011 at the AIS in Canberra from 23rd - 28th of January. As a new member of the Junior National Squad this was Celeste’s first opportunity to train with the other members of the Junior and Senior National Squads and directly under National Coach Peggy Liddick.
Whilst at camp Celeste participated in two intensive training sessions each day working on all four apparatuses (floor, vault, beam, bars) as well completing daily ballet workshops with National Choreographer, Stacey Umeh.
Celeste also had an opportunity to debut her new IDP10 floor routine to the rest of the National Squad, as well as to display new skills on Bars, Beam and Vault.
Coach Sasha Kazhamiakin reported that while Celeste was a little nervous in the early stages of the camp she soon settled into the camp routine and trained very well.
Both Celeste and Sasha also had the opportunity to attend lectures by Peggy Liddick analysing Australia’s performance in 2010, as well as talks from agencies such as ASDA.
Fellow Castle Hill RSL National Squad member Rebecca Chong was unable to attend this training camp as she was overseas.
The next National Squad training camp will take place at the AIS in Canberra in April.
